Digital identity is the information about individuals available in digital format; it could include the date of birth and other personal information such as those available on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. This information can be beneficial to individuals; simultaneously, it’s associated with some challenges like unauthorized access of such data, which might compromise the owners’ privacy. Therefore, we should be cautious when uploading our websites (Wilton 93).
While information privacy the right of people to have control over their personal information. Anyway, privacy is becoming complex due to technological advancements since data collection and exchange have increased. Also, privacy allows protecting the information they do not wish to share (Wilton 102). Security promotes the protection of individuals’ personal information from unauthorized access, which would have compromised its integrity, and availability.
Digital identity accountability could be promoted by-laws, civil society, and professional spaces. As a result, it ensures individuals make fair use of available information online to benefit the community. Also, this could promote privacy and protect personal information from unauthorized access. The laws could protect confidential data and provide a basis for punishing individuals for collecting data for malicious intentions. Additionally, the cases associated with digital information could reduce in society (Park and Milton 53).
Social media’s personal use is usually for socialization purposes; however, professional use is for searching for career opportunities and maintaining touch. Therefore, this has led to proper use of social media networks and reductions of misuse. The digital identities converge in social media platforms. Digital convergence promotes interaction among individuals from different places. Also, it allows for sharing of information and the exchange of ideas between people. The digital wallet cannot provide trust in the networked public because it is prone to compromise from malicious people (Park and Milton 59).
