Engaging in public audiences has both positive and negative effects on those in the public domain. For instance, Jody Vance cites that she has benefited from the foundation of her network and engages with the public audience (Vance 07:31-33:02). One gets to meet people that matter in different fields of specialization, which helps achieve many social goals that a person may have. However, challenges like working with people they never wish to and doing things your heart doesn’t like, and women may sometimes be limited to working within the men’s environment (Vance 07:31-33:02). Jody also notes that behind the public domain’s successes, challenges such as choosing between family and career are sometimes pervasive where mothers get laid off as they try to balance the two.
People working in the public domain easily use PLN to pass their points of view more easily than those who cannot and hence can help expose their strength (Vance 07:31-33:02). However, these people need to write or rather commend on things through their bosses’ lens since anything that contradicts their expectations may lead to severe consequences.
To maintain a good track record while avoiding conflicts with misinformation, veterans need to be cautious of their positions and use recommended sources such as the people they look up to and only credible platforms that are free from gossips and misinformation. Building a PNL that one can rely on requires the utilization of professional and experienced people in the fields of specialization and always looking up to those who professionally source information from the fields directly.
